We all know movement and music have countless benefits such as presence, connection and endorphins. Dance YOU is inspired by Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms, aka The Wave. It is a free form, fun dance in a safe and inviting space.

These are some guidelines to help us all be on the same page:

Honor people’s flow by not talking or using your cell phone.
Be consensual. Listen for a yes, respect a no.
Be free. Dance how you want. No judgment.

What to expect?
There will be snackables and non-alcoholic drinks - some for the taking and others for purchase. When you arrive, we'll take a few minutes to say hello, go over consent expectations, then we'll get dancin'! Move, groove, and get in your flow zone. The idea here is to feel alive with the music in a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free environment. Like ecstatic dance, the playlist will begin in a slower tempo, build to a fast tempo, then work its way back down. The playlist will run for about an hour.

Who will make this amazing playlist??
You! .. and our volunteer DJ's Arielle Landsberg and Dan Vidali. We’re asking everyone who RSVPs to list a couple of songs they want to contribute to a flowy groove; this could be anything from your favorite oldie to an instrumental beat. We just ask it’s appropriate for all ears and has a positive message. Send us what you have, and the DJ's will do their best to include as many songs as they can.

Structure
Our time together will be spent in a rich fluid atmosphere of teaching, dialogue and contemplation. Each class will be organic and holistic. We will use the energy and interests of the participants to lead us all into deeper understandings of the cultural dream state and breaking free into awakening.

You’ll leave each session feeling more strength and fortitude in continuing upon the greatest journey of all; the hero’s journey - the odyssey of self-discovery.

The Focus
We will dig into our cultural and “normal” state of consciousness.

Do our cultural beliefs give us a deeper understanding of reality or actually distort our perception of reality?

How do all of our cultural issues such as poverty, racism, sexism, war, environmental degradation, addiction, and many others connect to a single root?

How is culture a dream state and how can a culture be a hellish or heaven like way of living?

How does our cultural thinking impact the way we use science?

Are we interconnected with the world, what is Wholeness?

We will leap into what different people call Wholeness, Buddha Nature, Cosmic Consciousness, God, and Tao and what transcendence and transpersonal mean.

You will learn how to dig into the fundamental questions that pertain to reality, oneself, nature, consciousness and culture.

You will discover the art of listening and how that pertains to actually letting go.

This all sounds great, but who are these facilitators?
It’s us! Garin and April. We have spent our careers exploring the intersection of culture, philosophy, psychology and education. Garin’s masters’ degrees are in transpersonal and consciousness studies and education. April’s bachelor’s degrees are in psychology and philosophy and master’s is in psychology. We obtained these degrees because this is what we love to think about and learn about, and we’re so excited to think and learn with you!

In partnership with The Children's Room and with a generous grant from Revitalizing Waterbury, Bridgeside is hosting our first Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) with Vermont Drag Queens Emoji Nightmare and Katniss Everqueer.

Following the story hour, The Children's Room volunteers will lead kids in an activity decorating their own crowns.

DQSH celebrates reading through the glamorous art of drag and creates diverse, accessible, and culturally-inclusive family programming where kids can express their authentic selves and become bright lights of change in their communities. In spaces like this, kids can learn from LGBTQ+ experiences to love themselves, celebrate the fabulous diversity in their communities, and stand up for what they believe in and each other.

Emoji Nightmare and Katniss Everqueer will be sure to delight and captivate audience members of all ages as they share stories focused on individuality, activism, gender, creativity, expression, and social responsibility. 

DQSH was created in San Francisco in 2015 by Michelle Tea and RADAR Productions, a queer literary arts organization. DQSH has now has now grown into a global network of local organizations (including the one here in Vermont), each of which is independently managed and funded.
